Decisions and process

What is prioritization matrix?

A prioritization matrix (also called an impact–effort matrix) is a simple decision tool that sorts work into four quadrants by expected impact and required effort.

What it means

The four quadrants are usually labeled: do now (high impact, low effort), plan (high impact, high effort), do when there’s time (low impact, low effort), and hold for now (low impact, high effort).

How to use it

The matrix only works if “impact” and “effort” mean the same thing to everyone on the team. Write down the rule for each quadrant before you start.
